Walking and cycling

There is lots to do in Zuid-Limburg. The area is not only known for its hilly landscapes and Burgundian lifestyle, but also for the many attractions it has to offer. For both the historical and the modern, you can count on Zuid-Limburg!

Landgraaf is part of the Parkstad Limburg region: an area of extremes and contrasts. Nature reserves and vast parkland surround the towns and villages. The area is is the fastest growing tourist destination in The Netherlands.

Brunsummerheide

Brunsummerheide is a large nature reserve with a wide variety of animal and bird species. Enjoy a walk through ancient pine forests, across vast moors and by pretty ponds. The trees in autumn are spectacular. For real nature lovers, this is a unique area for several rare amphibian and bird species. This is also a place with many attractions for families with children. Children can let off steam in the playground and enjoy the treehouse and the animal observation area.

Heuvelland

Heuvelland is full of green meadowland, colourful orchards, nostalgic villages, and authentic towns. The hills, forests, streams, and rivers change with every season. In 2005, the Dutch tourism authorities awarded this landscape five stars. In Heuvelland take in the beautiful views while enjoying the unique walking and cycling routes.

Drielandenpunt

Drielandenpunt in Vaals is the highest point in The Netherlands, the meeting point of the Dutch, German and Belgian borders. Thanks to its beautiful location, Drielandenpunt attracts many tourists each year who come to enjoy the beautiful scenery and fun activities. There is plenty to do both for young and old: getting lost in the largest maze in The Netherlands, taking walks in the wide-open spaces, or enjoying the adventure playground with its water-related activities.

Maastricht

Maastricht is one of the oldest towns in The Netherlands which is immediately obvious when you come to visit. Every corner is different. The many small boutiques, large department stores and trendy shops offer plenty of fun for shopaholics, but there is plenty of authentic Burgundian culture and art to enjoy as well. Every year, the city attracts art lovers from all over who come to see the TEFAF, The Netherlands largest art fair.

Aken
Just 25 minutes away is the vibrant heart of Aken. This German town has more than 250,000 inhabitants and is located in an open valley, surrounded by dense woods, hills and open fields. The old town centre, with its historic squares, pleasant shopping streets and beautiful fountains, make Aken well worth the visit. Going to be in the area this Christmas season? Valkenburg

Valkenburg is a must on any tourist's agenda. Valkenburg has both above-ground and below-ground activities on offer. Many are centred around the various caves in the area. Why not try cave biking, a truly unique concept in all Europe, and don't miss a tour of the ancient 'velvet' cave.

GaiaZOO
GaiaZOO biedt een wereld vol aan dieren gecombineerd met een stukje natuur. Door hun unieke en frisse visie, is GaiaZoo maar liefst vier keer uitgeroepen tot ‘Mooiste Dierentuin van de Benelux’. Ook bij de ANWB viel GaiaZoo in de smaak. In 2013, 2018 en 2020 heeft de ANWB GaiaZoo uitgekozen tot ‘Leukste uitje van Nederland’. Een reis over de hele wereld in één dag? Bij GaiaZoo kan het! De unieke en vooral bijzondere dieren die je zult ontmoeten, laten je versteld staan. Een geweldig avontuur voor jong en oud!

Mondo Verde
In 2007 heeft familie van der Honing Mondo Verde overgenomen. Zij hebben het park een heel nieuw leven ingeblazen. Het park is nu een ontzettend leuk dagje uit. Er valt enorm veel te beleven. Door het hele park vindt je bijzondere dieren, leuke attracties en prachtige tuinen. Het park is 365 dagen per jaar geopend, dus jong en oud zijn het hele jaar door van harte welkom!

Drielandenpunt
In Vaals ligt het Drielandenpunt. Dit is niet alleen het hoogste punt van Nederland. Hier komen ook de landgrenzen van Nederland, Duitsland en België samen. Het Drielandenpunt is omringd met prachtige natuur, waardoor het erg aantrekkelijk is voor toeristen om hier ook een wandeling te komen maken. Jong en oud kunnen zich hier vermaken. De kleintjes kunnen naar hartenlust spelen in de speeltuin. Voor de durfallen is er ook nog een mooie uitdaging. Vind jij de weg naar buiten in het grootste Labyrint van Nederland? 

Kasteel Hoensbroek
Zin in een dagje avontuur? Bezoek Kasteel Hoensbroek! In dit slot kun je je niet alleen vermaken, maar leer je ook nog een hele hoop. Tover jezelf om tot een echte ridder of jonkvrouw en herbeleef de avonturen van ridders, graven en markiezen. Dans in de prachtige balzaal, beklim de Middeleeuwse toren of zoek de geheime kamer! Tijdens de spannende kasteelspeurtocht vindt je misschien wel de eeuwenoude kerker. Kasteel Hoensbroek is al zeven eeuwen oud. Het heeft meerdere functies gehad, maar de verdedigingsburcht en woonhuis waren de twee belangrijkste functies. Deze functies vind je terug in het museum, de huidige functie van het gebouw. Leer, lees, kijk en ontdek alles over de architectuur.

Blote voetenpark
De natuur voelen tot in je tenen? Letterlijk! Uit met die schoenen en sokken en op blote voeten de natuur in. Het is uitdagend, ontspannend en prikkelt je zintuigen. Een 100% natuurlijke en gezonde behandeling voor lichaam en geest. Het 4 kilometer lange blotenvoetenpad is toegankelijk voor iedereen die goed ter been is. Kinderen vanaf 3 jaar zijn van harte welkom. Op het pad staan hindernissen opgesteld, als je deze liever niet neemt kun je gewoon het pad ernaast nemen. Niks moet, alles mag. Kom ervaren!
